Art Class Progress

Deb's leaf is coming along nicely.  She's working in the subtle color layers.
Tasha has a new piece and is enjoying putting in glazes and patches of color.

Cathy has been enlarging the scale of her flowers and leaves and is doing a great job.

Advanced Landscape Oil Painting Class #4

I enjoyed my time with the other students last night at the BDAC.  Got a little further along on the Lotzbueren, Germany painting.  Next week is our last week of the session where we show everyone what we got done; I hope to finish mine this week.  But here it is so far:

Making Art at the Mad Potter in Houston, Texas

A year ago my sister Emily invited me to come visit her in Texas. I'm so glad I went!
Becky, Emily, and Jennifer

Goony and silly… Just what the doctor ordered!

I had the privilege of visiting my two sisters and doing art with them. We painted for 4 1/2 hours and laughed and talked and had a wonderful time!
Emily painting her plate.
My plate was inspired by a painting of one of my students; pink roses. I can't wait to see what it looks like fired!
Check out the backside of the plate:

Emily made a celebration plate:
Look at the gorgeous poppy on the backside:
Becky made a celebration plate for her family:

Art at a RS Enrichment Night

I had the honor of teaching a painting class to a number of ladies last night who had never painted before.  We had a lot of fun.  Most chose to use the still life reference of fruit and vegetables.

I shared the quote from Elder Ballard which counsels women to find one or two things (a skill or interest) that replenish them and to make time for it.

Advanced Landscape Oil Painting Class by Diane Turner at the BDAC

Yay!  I'm back with my fellow artist enjoying their company and some excellent instruction.  We're loving our new location on Main Street in Bountiful.

First Session: I sketched the under painting with my brush and worked in the sky.
Second Session:  worked on sky, mid and foreground.

Tips I learned:
*add yellow ochre to the clouds
*smudge the details of the leaves on the trees.
*use a lighter color on trees at the horizon line to push them back.

Art Book that I want, want, want...

I can see myself really learning a lot using ideas in this book!  Anyone else interested in this kind of challenge?

Welcome to Deb, a new student!

Today we had Cathy, Tasha, Chris, Jenny, and Deb at the studio to paint.  We had so much fun, it was like a party! Check out the wonderful things they are doing!
Enjoying some lovely music, each other's company and painting is a fun combination.
Deb prepping the Masonite boards with rubbing alcohol (to dissolve some of the chemicals in the board that would damage the painting), GAC-100 Multi-Purpose Acrylic Polymer (to put a barrier between any residual chemicals and the painting ) and gesso (to prepare the surface with "tooth" so that the paint can grab and bond to the support (board).
Jenny did some really wonderful glazing layers today on her painting. I love how it's coming along.
Cathy started this fun Rose painting that she plans on putting on her office wall.  Way to go Cathy!
Tasha is doing the foundational work of blocking in her colors. She is taking ideas from a couple of different references and creating a new look all her own! I'm excited to see how it turns out!
Chris is using three different references to create a unique one-of-a-kind painting for her husband. I predict this painting will be something the family holds very special as an heirloom one day.
